A Penny Or . . .

Consider a person who has a penny. He values that penny. He commits His whole being to keeping that penny. He doesn*t see anything greater or more important than that penny. Unknown to that man is the fact that he can give that penny away and have it replaced by a million dollars. Also unknown to that man is the fact that if he keeps the penny for himself it is all he will ever have. When the man gives his penny to the donor of the million dollars, the donor cleans it up and gives it back to him to enjoy for a time even though he doesn*t own it any more. All the man has to do to get the million dollars is to trust the donor. The penny is the man*s only penny and he will never have another one. The penny was given by the donor in the first place and is only a temporary gift. The million dollars is a permanent gift.

The penny is your life. The million dollars is eternity in paradise. By comparison the penny is an exaggeration of the value of your life and the million dollars is an understatement of the value of paradise.

Matthew 16:25: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

2 Corinthians 12:14a: Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: . . .

When the Apostle Paul wrote those words he was truly reflecting the attitude of Jesus Christ (the donor) toward us. Jesus wants more than our lives. He wants our entire being. Giving ourselves to Christ is evidence of faith in Christ. If He has us He has our lives.

Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
